The mission of Positive Vibes Only is to help at risk youth overcome mental challenges that may increase the chance of crime and imprisonment. We aim to empower them with SEL and Life skills that can help produce positive outcomes in school and in life.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) reported significant disciplinary actions, with male students experiencing short-term suspension rates of 191.87 per 1,000 students and female students at 111.82 per 1,000. Research indicates that such exclusionary discipline practices, like suspensions and expulsions, are ineffective at improving school safety and can negatively impact students' academic success and increase the likelihood of involvement with the criminal justice system. The correlation between school disciplinary actions and subsequent juvenile delinquency underscores the urgent need for preventive interventions within the educational system.

Our Purposely Positive Youth Prevention Program is an Evidence-based SEL tiered curriculum encompassing CASEL'S 5 social and emotional competencies in a fun, unique and relatable way. The 16-week program aligns with North Carolina’s Education Standards. The goal of the PPYPP is to improve the social-emotional learning (SEL) skills of youth aged 12-17, ultimately reducing school expulsions, delinquent behaviors, and criminal justice system referrals.

 

We meet students where they are, using music, interactive lessons, certified life coaches, and culturally relevant tools to build resilience and leadership. Unlike many programs, we support both students and their families through reflection, assessments, and community engagement. We're not just teaching SEL—we're building a lifestyle of positivity, purpose, and personal growth.
